Seven years have passed since Arden and Company made their fortunes in the Caves of Chaos. The Keep on the Borderlands enjoyed a brief respite from the constant threat the caves presented. Like so many eyes just outside of the watch fires, the denizens of the caves kept constant vigil for anyone who dared move away from the warmth of the fire. Arden and Company turned their threats back on them as they worked their way through the caves, culminating in the destruction of the evil shrine to Orcus.
Since that time, our band of heroes have ridden on to other adventures. Their victory is but a small ripple in a large pond. It appears that the forces of chaos are never snuffed out for long. Time flows and the struggle continues. Old heroes fade into the background and new ones take their place. For it is not a new book that is written, but only a new chapter.
My intention in this space is to chronicle the deeds of a new group of heroes who are starting from humble beginnings to follow in the footsteps of countless men and women before them. Will victory be their result or has fate deigned an ignoble ending? Follow me on this adventure as I record the deeds of a new band of adventurers. Their tale yet unwritten remains to be told.
GM Notes ~ I shall be playing in my own created setting, Reuel. The posts will be of solo games starting in the small town of Bree, several days ride south of the Keep on the Borderlands. Bree is mentioned in older posts in this blog and I intend to build on this material, using the NPCs, monsters, and magic I’ve already created.
The second goal in this exercise is to test the merits of Mydwandr as a ruleset for solo play. Mydwandr is the latest offering from James and Robyn George and is currently a Silver Bestseller on DriveThruRpg. This rules light system follows in the footsteps of another Old House Rules creation, Pits and Perils. I had used Pits & Perils for my first solo campaign, Perils on the Borderlands. I found the rules worked well for my solo gaming endeavours. I have had the book since 2023 and now I find I have time to delve into solo play using it. My intention is to take the rules and tinker a bit with them, adding houserules and other bits I’ve enjoyed from other games. Isn’t that what we should do with any TTRPG that we play? My favorite iteration of D&D is Whitebox:FMAG but modified with house rules to suit my taste.
My third goal is to utilize the blog as a vehicle to enhance my love of roleplaying. Filling up the blank space here with reports of my solo play and content I have created will improve my writing skills and creativity. I am not currently selling or plan to sell anything here. This is solely for the love of the game. Perhaps someday, I will gather up my notes and scribblings and offer an organized product. But for the near future, my readers are safe from any pleas to buy something. If I can give someone inspiration to write their own content, I’m happy.
More to come…
