2nd Week of Early Spring in the town of Middlebury, Kingdom of Eyre
Felix, the chimney sweep, is quite familiar with all the businesses in the town. He directs Beck to a reputable jeweler. The jeweler takes a look at the emerald stone set into a silver bracelet. [Using Mythic GM, does the jeweler recognize the bracelet? Result–yes, he does.] The jeweler remembers this piece. It was made for the betrothed of a nobleman. [Did she lose her life? No. Did he lose his? Yes.] The nobleman was one of the ghouls that Beck encountered in the fens.
[Does the noblewoman live in Middlebury? Yes, AND she is here now.] The lady’s name is Althea Hawthorne. Her father, Lord Ellis, is the duke of Middlebury. Her fiance was Fostwyck Yardley, cousin to the duke of Granden Vale (Alfred Yardley).
The small stone turns out to be a small, but very nice emerald. Total value of the jewelry is 300sp. The jeweler does not tell the story of its origin. He tells Beck he needs more time to appraise it. Beck allows this AND tells the jeweler that they are staying at the Forgotten Cow Inn. [The dice roll from Mythic GM declared that.]
Beck and company depart from the jeweler and go shopping in the market. They find new cloaks and tunics for Felix and Lugan (12sp total), new boots (10sp total). [Question–do they find a dwarven made axe? Yes!] Beck buys the axe for his new friend Lugan. The dwarf sheds a private tear over this gesture. Felix purchases a dagger (3sp) and Beck buys one week of standard rations to share among the party. Beck is counting on the bracelet to fetch enough silver to purchase at least two horses.
Odette buys a few bandages and some medicinal herbs (6sp total).
They return to the Forgotten Cow just in time to see a group of guards bearing down on them. Felix tries to lead them quietly away, but the guards rush at them cutting off their escape! Felix is the only one to slip past the guards, as the others are surrounded. Lugan puts his hand on his new axe but Beck tells him to stand down. The three adventurers are taken to the keep.
Lord Ellis meets with them. Beck tries to use his oratory skills to tell the truth about finding the bracelet among a pack of ghouls. [Roll 3d6–result of best two dice is 9. Success!] The duke appears to believe Beck but wants additional proof. He decides to send one of his trusted men to verify this. It is a seasoned woodsman named Higgins. [Does Higgins manacle them? Yes. He puts shackles on Beck only, but disarms both man and dwarf. Odette is told that she will not be going back to Bree with them and is dismissed. [Do Odette and Felix travel secretly to Bree on the trail of
Beck and Lugan. Yes! Does Althea hear of Beck’s story? Yes!] Odette and Felix meet and decide to travel after them. Unbeknownst to everyone, Althea throws on a commoner’s cloak and makes her way to Bree. The journey to Bree provides a chance that Althea meets Felix and Odette on the road.
[GM note–I used a one-page Mythic GM emulator for this session and it worked really well, especially the Discover Meaning tables. You can see this generator on DTRPG, very reasonably priced.]
