No Game is Sacred


Session 2, Fatbeards Whitebox, Castle Maub 11-23-25

[In game time, 11-16-325]
Brogo, Drogo, Jim Barley, and Brillo (a new hobbit henchman) are in the Dead Pony Inn. The hobbits order stew and hard cider. Barley and Brillo order some stronger drafts. They talk with Mya Stormcrow about opportunities in Bree. She tells them to stay out of the Geistwald Forest where the witch queen’s castle lies. She tells them to talk with Sheriff John Briarfoot for possible jobs in the area.

Valerius (human cleric) and Volanis (human fighter henchman) meet Innocentius (human cleric henchman) while entering the doors of St George’s Church. The church is white stone and strongly built. They encounter a woman washing the floors. She introduces herself as the Reverend Mother Patience and offers the clerics and Volanis lodgings and board while they stay in Bree. She is curious about their travels and what plans they may have.

Tharn the dwarf is in the merchant green. He finds a butcher and sells the meat from the dire boar for 5sp. The butcher tells Tharn a rumor.

Rumor—a castle lies in the Geistwald and it is patrolled by uniformed guards.

Sheriff John introduces himself to the PCs at the Dead Pony Inn. He buys a drink for them and offers them a job. The shepherd, Abner, grazes his flock just west of Bree. He has been losing sheep lately and wants to find the cause.

The party decides to investigate and a short walk finds them west of Bree where they find a shepherd standing watch over his flock. A large sheepdog is at his side. Abner the shepherd tells them that a half dozen of his flock are missing. He thinks they wandered into the Grimshank Woods to the west. His is afraid to go into the woods himself.

The party marches to the west about one-half a mile and hear the bleating of a sheep. Approaching the woods, they spy a sheep just inside the edge of the woods. Brogo and Drogo, the hobbits, sneak into the woods to flank the sheep. Innocentius plays a tune on his holy flail (a flail/flute weapon). The others walk cautiously towards the sheep. As they do, two other sheep stumble out of the woods, walking strangely and uttering odd cries. Tharn the dwarf charges towards the first sheep and discovers it is tied to a tree stump. The other two sheep throw off their sheepskins to reveal four goblins! Two other goblins jump out of the trees onto Brogo and Drogo.

The goblins-in-sheep’s-clothing surprise the cleric, charging him with their clubs. He takes a heavy smack on the knee. The goblins attempting to ambush the hobbits attack…one misses but the other stabs Brogo with his dagger. Another pair of goblins try to batter Innocentius but fail.

Brillo the hobbit thief fires his light crossbow killing one goblin. Innocentious pounds another goblin into the ground with his flail.

Valerius and Volanis kill one goblin but the other is only injured. Big Jim Barley moves to help the hobbits. He lobs his rock high into the air, barely missing both goblin and Brogo! Drogo stabs one of the goblins with his spear and Tharn the dwarf cleaves the other goblin’s head clean off! The remaining goblin flees. Valerius and Volanis both miss the retreating goblin. Brillo takes a pot shot at it but also misses.

They loot the goblins finding only 1 sp and a serviceable dagger. Brogo and Drogo step into the woods and see several sheep being pulled over a wooded hill by several more goblins.

The party takes the live sheep back to Abner and he rewards them with 5sp. He begs them to return to the Grimshank Woods and rescue his other sheep.
