Here is a recap of session 12 that I played 5-12-25. It seems so long ago.
XP calculations thus far…3xp for the manticore encounter. Beck now has 8xp, all the others have 4xp. Still a long way until level 2.
Two weeks pass in the frontier town of Bree. Beck and his companions rest and re-supply. The group treasure now amounts to 480sp, a coral pendant (120sp), an amber gemstone (100sp), and six moonstones (50sp each).
During this downtime, Beck and company purchase the following gear.
4 mounts (3 riding horses, 1 pony) w/ saddles, bit & bridle, and saddle bags.
Beck gives Odette his sling and buys a much needed longbow and 24 arrows. He buys a chain shirt and has his longsword silvered by the blacksmith.
Lugan, the dwarf, buys a chain shirt, a light crossbow, 24 bolts, and a silver dagger.
Odette is given a slender silver mace by Mother Patience. Odette gives the Church an offering of 50sp. She also buys more garlic, bandages, and 2 flasks of oil.
Felix buys a pair of balanced silver throwing daggers, leather armor, and has his dagger silvered.
In addition, each PC spends 1sp each day for their modest living expenses. [GM note–I am using the silver standard instead of the gold standard for all prices.]
Questions (one for each PC)
Q: Does the Duke of Middlebury send men to harass or capture Beck? (likely) d: 19 -> yes!
Q: Does Odette begin training under the tutelage of Mother Patience? (very likely) d: 53 -> yes!
Q: Does Lugan speak with Agnes Gum about adventuring opportunities? (likely) d: 62 -> yes
Q: Does Felix get contacted by Brannog the witch? (likely) d: 61 -> yes
Interesting plot points for future sessions.
Brannog the witch finds a quiet moment to speak with Felix. [I roll on the One Page Mythic GM Discover Meaning tables. Result= “move, ruined”.
Q: Does the witch want Felix to become her witch-man? [This would be a loyal servant to the witch.] (50/50) d=54, no. But she does want to hire the party once again.
Brannog catches Felix in a dark alley near the Dead Pony Inn. She says she knows of a small tribe of goblins in the Grimshank Woods. They have been relatively peaceful, stealing the odd sheep and chicken on occasion. Recently something has been stirring them up. A tribe of goblins has moved in on them from the Goblin Hills to the west. The Yellow Hand tribe has come into the Grimshank Woods and Brannog wishes to know the reason why. She will pay a handsome reward for results.
Q: Does Brannog fear being in Bree under Cornwall the wizard’s nose? (likely) d=73, no! She laughs at the addle-brained old fool who can hardly be trusted to find his own hat, let alone a witch of her power.
Felix informs Beck and the others. They will take on this mission.
Q: Does Beck speak to Cornwall about this? (likely) D: 89, no! Beck keeps the mission a secret.
The next morning, the party saddles their mounts and ride to the Grimshank Woods in search of goblins. They move cautiously and are within the woods in less than a hour.
[I rolled an encounter check at this point. Result=Ill fortune!] Beck hops down from his horse a twists his ankle! Odette wraps it with a bandage but it will be sore for the day. [-50% to movement for the next 24 hours]
They enter the woods. It is dark and dismal in the forest. They find a game trail, dismount, and walk their horses along the trail. Felix goes ahead to scout. [Felix has the ability Lightfoot.] An hour of stealth and nothing the result of it. Four more hours of seaching the forest and the party finally spies something!
Two men in leather armor and carrying weapons (crossbows and swords) are following a game trail. They spy Felix! Giving chase, they run into Beck and company. They are intent on killing Felix. The PCs win initiative and Beck lets loose an arrow, hitting a bandit. Lugan fires his crossbow but misses. Odette swings a sling stone…WHACK! It hits the other bandit.
One bandit returns fire with his crossbow and hits Lugan in the chest! [2pts!] The other moves to engage Beck, slashing with his sword but it glances off Beck’s armor.
Beck draws his sword and runs the bandit through! [2pts…dead bandit]
Lugan fires his crossbow once more and kills the other bandit.
Searching the bandits, they find a sack of 25sp, another bag with a dozen arrowheads and a cheaply made dagger, and several bottles of brandy and a couple of skinned cats (that appear to have been smoked).
Odette attempts to bind Lugan’s wounds, but fails.
