I’m making some new maps for my Thirty Years Reuel campaign. I am loosely basing the land formation on southeastern US geography (or how it would appear in the aftermath of polar ice melting). National Geographic has some great images of North America with an altered coastline.
I began by marking some reference points. Four of the dots on my map correspond to cities in the US. From there I can gauge an approximate distance and scale for the map. I lightly traced the coast and made some modifications. Penciled in the areas that would hold hills and mountains. Next, I inked the coastline in with a dip pen and bottled ink. I erased the pencil marks best I could and then inked in the hills and mountains. There was a great YouTube video on this. I want my map to have a Tolkien style.
Coloring in the map was enjoyable. I still want to add more features, trees, hills, and other items of interest. I’m really happy with my results so far. Any advice and suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks, John
